OVERVIEW
A thermodynamic database was developed and phase diagrams were
calculated for Bi-In-Sn-Zn alloys
according to the CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse
Diagrams) method. Thermodynamic parameters
for all phases have been optimized
using experimental data from the literature. The resulting database
can be a powerful tool in the
development of lead-free
Bi-In-Sn-Zn soldering alloys. It
enables the calculation
of solidus and liquidus temperatures, phase compositions and fractions
and thermodynamic
properties. Furthermore,
related properties, such as surface tension and viscosity,
were predicted from the thermodynamic descriptions.
